On Sunday, March 3, the RMHS Winter Color Guard competed in the TDI State Contest at the Peoria Civic Center. In the highly competitive Open Flag category, the young RMHS squad took 5th place, only .9 out of 4th. This year’s routine is a combination of short and tall flag equipment choreography, tosses, along with dance and drill movement. Their routine is to the song is “SAFE” by Westlife. The award-winning squad consists of the following members: Erin Crain, Emma Corradi, Melisa Featherstone, Lesley Garcia, Angie Grande, Sohyun Kim, Marieanne Klatt, Meredith Lenihan, Joanna Leung, Sarah McMahon, Anette Navarro, Danielle Sioui, Kaitlyn Werle, and Emily Zimmermann. The team is coached by Mr. Christopher Buti and assisted by Caitlyn Walsh.
Head Coach, Christopher Buti states, “It has been a great season of growth for the young squad.” The RMHS squad is one of the few schools that doesn’t have a JV squad to help prepare the students for varsity and state level competition. “We have some girls who picked up a flag for the first time this November and increased their skills to compete at the State level in just a few months,” added Mr. Buti. Next up for the award-winning squad is a Recognition Assembly performance in March, Tryouts in May, and the RM Memorial Parade in May.
