Grayslake Recap & Wheeling Contest

Thornhere’s not much time to rest for the Marching Mustangs. Fresh off of their class AAA First-place finish, Best Percussion, Best Color Guard, and Best Drum Major awards at the Grayslake marching competition, the students are busily preparing for the Chicagoland Marching Band Festival at Wheeling High School this Saturday. The band will need help with water, loading and unloading the truck both at RMHS and at Wheeling HS, and other things, so please use the sign-up button at the bottom of the Volunteer Page to sign up for whatever tasks you can help with. People will be on-hand to show us what needs to be done, so even if you haven’t volunteered before, come on down and do whatever you can.

Please RSVP for the Band Camp Picnic

On this “Eve” of August Band Camp, we noticed that there are still quite a few families who have not indicated whether they plan to attend the Picnic this Friday night, August 5.  We are beginning to pull together our hotdog order and want to make sure that we have enough for everyone!  You can submit your response and number of people going right HERE.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you Friday night!

Band Camp Volunteers & Picnic

shirt_poloMarching band camp is next week August 1 – 5, and we are in need of volunteers to help with uniform fittings and serve dinner after they’ve been practicing all day. If you are able to help, please go to the Volunteer page, scroll down to the Band Uniform Fittings & Dinner Serving, and click the sign-up button or click this link: Marching Mustangs Band Camp

cutleryOn Friday, August 5, there’s a picnic for the families of ALL MUSIC STUDENTS—not just the marching band, so pass the word! After the picnic, stay to watch the first public performance of this year’s marching competition piece. We’re using signupgenius.com not only to track volunteers, but also to get an idea of how many people will attend the picnic. Whether you want to volunteer or just socialize, please visit the Volunteer page, scroll down to the Summer Band Camp Picnic entry, and click the sign-up button or click this link: Summer Band Camp Picnic

Thank You

heartThanks to all who were able to join us for our very first Early Camp Tailgate Party Thursday night!  I, personally, had a great time. We hope that you saw some old friends and maybe even met some new ones; got answers to some questions you may have had; and enjoyed our first look at your 2016-17 Marching Mustangs!

For those who were unable to attend this event…fear not!  We will have future events in the days to come, beginning with the Annual Family Picnic at the conclusion of summer band camp on Friday, Aug. 5th. We’ll get to see the first performance of the MM competition/halftime show…Desert Winds, so be sure to save the date.  It’s always a great time!

Once again, thanks to all who were able to attend Thursday night.  It was really nice to see everyone.

Enjoy the parades and have a safe & happy 4th of July holiday!!

All the best,
Tracy McMahon

July 4th Parades

There’s no better way to break up the work-week than to have a parade—except maybe TWO parades! The Arlington Heights parade is followed almost immediately by the Rolling Meadows parade, and the RMHS Marching Mustangs perform in both of them. This is the first time some of the students have performed in public, so come out and give them your support! (A map of the parade routes is at the end of this post.)

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help. Your efforts are appreciated by everyone: students, parents, and staff. If you want to double-check your responsibilities or sign up for one of the remaining positions, visit the Volunteer page and click the sign-up button for the parades or click the following link: July 4th Parades. Since it’s going to be so hot Monday, the students could really use a few more people to walk the parade and give them water.
